Igor Wierzbicki has over thirty years of professional experience.
He started his career as an in-house lawyer working for small and medium businesses and then for public bodies in Poland.
He also worked as a solicitor for the Polish State Rail Company (PKP) and for over twenty years, as the Chief Solicitor of one of the state administration agencies in Poland.
Mr. Wierzbicki’s international experience also includes assisting two German construction companies in Berlin, and as “of-counsel” for two British law firms.
CRIMINAL COMMERCIAL LAW
A (Sweden) -v- S (Poland) – High Court and Court of Appeal in London
Of counsel in a cross-border case tried at the High Court and then at the Court of Appeal in London (A (Sweden) -v- S (Poland).
The case concerned the right to be recognized as a party to civil proceedings and issues relating to intellectual property law. Mr. Igor Wierzbicki advised in the dispute on the interpretation of Polish labor law.
The Court of Appeal in London disallowed the action against the Client to be tried at London’s court. The case has set an important precedent for international disputes in the UK, developing a so-called “relevance test” for cross-border labor and intellectual property law disputes.
G.A -v – W.A spółka z o.o. (Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw / Regional Court in Warsaw)
Of counsel in a case concerning the manipulation of information on the capital market (Warsaw Stock Exchange) in Warsaw.
Mr. Wierzbicki was advising foreign Client and his lawyers in a cross-border criminal proceeding, concerning the publication of incorrect information on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, and then a civil dispute with a Polish advisory company.
As a consequence of the actions taken, the case was discontinued at the stage of the prosecutor’s proceedings. A settlement was also reached with a consulting company. Extradition to Poland, that was threatened to our Client, was also avoided.
INTERNATIONAL / FAMILY LAW
Lg – v AB (District Court in Opel)
Represented a client from the United Kingdom in a cross-border dispute between spouses, initiated before two courts in Europe.
The case concerned the interpretation of EU law directives that define the right to commence proceedings in the EU countries against the person.
Mr Wierzbicki was acted as an of counsel, secured his client the right to a court in a more favorable jurisdiction for him.
ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
As an in-house lawyer for a Public Water Management Agency, for over 20 years he has advised and represented interests of his Clients in administrative courts of all instances.
NON-CONTENTIOUS MATTERS
Igor Wierzbicki advised a company involved in the production of motorways infrastructure in Poland. He was advising during the process of setting up this company and a construction contracts.
He also advises as an in-house lawyer in a company operating in the heating industry.
